Atmospheric data is currently being used to improve weather forecasts and help us understand the earths everchanging environment. Many measurement experiments are being held back and restricted by the shortness of their fall time. Collecting abundant and credible data in and around microgravity is still a challenge. Atmospheric measurements taken with balloons are very selective and limited in height, whereas rockets are costly and rise and fall too quickly.
This is exactly the gap we want to close with a micro glider. Although the measurement with a glider is still dependent on the height of the rocket, it has a much higher fall time and therefore a prolonged data capture duration.
This micro glider opens whole new possibilites, for example as an general experiment plattform. A navigable glider (or even multiple gliders) could measure and capture data of an entire whole area in one take.
The GAME experiment delivered the proof of work, for a self-stabilizing glider. GAMEon designs and tests a glider, which builds on the experiment platform of GAME but has a revised mechanical design and a new electronic core. The experiment consists of the ejected glider plus electronics as well as the means to transport the experiment safely and fully powered until the ejection.
